Always do what you are afraid to do

New technology provides new opportunities. In many industries, new innovative companies creates new opportunities by using new technology in new ways, and often succeeds at the expense of established companies that are too concerned about yesterdays mechanisms.

In this presentation from the BreakFastForward seminar the 18th of June 2013 at MediaFront I presented some of these changes using my own experience with designing, producing and distributing my new photo-book; "Mzungu by Jarle Naustvik".

A project that had been impossible only a few years ago, but is now a possibility due to new players such as Blurb.com and Portfoliobox.net who dare to challenge traditional thinking, by offering smart and user-friendly tools and services, built on new business models adapted to the current market.

WORK: Gulltaggen 2013

Two weeks ago I did my third assignment for INMA as a photographer for the Gulltaggen event in Oslo Spektrum. Two exiting days with a lot of hard work, but also a great possibility to experience and listen to some interesting international speakers such as Harper Reed and Jim Messina from the OBAMA 2012 campaign.

Below are some of the shots from the event this year. Hope you like them!

Gulltaggen is the largest event in Norway and the Nordic countries within digital marketing, communication, innovation, leadership and creativity. It has by far become the best arena for sharing competence, knowledge and networking.

A perfect day in Uroa

Two years ago on this date (3rd of January) I was lucky to spend some relaxing and peacfull time on a long white sandy beach close to the small village Uroa at Zanzibar Island. I had a great time observing the local fishermen and kids fishing and playing at the beach.

These are some of the shots I took this date two years ago.

Last Christmas

Tomorrow it´s time to load up the car and head to the mountains again. One of my yearly highlights with fantastic Norwegian winter landscape just outside the door and a lot of oportunities to get some nice shots if you manage to get up in the morning.

These are some of the shots I took last christmas holiday. I had some fantastic peacefull trips, almost all alone with the nature and my camera gear.

Oslo Wood

I have always been fascinated by water and reflections. These shots are from a "I don´t know what I´m doing, but it sounds like an idea" session I did tree years ago. The first photograph below made it all the way to #1 place on Flickr Explore the 5th of March 2009

Behind the scenes: I used my dinner table which has a dark surface, and sprayed water on top of it. Behind the table I placed a Oslo Wood lamp that gave a warm golden glow and nice reflections in the organic forms that was created from the water. The camera was placed on a tripod with a shutter speed from 2,5 sec up to 10 sec.

Wildlife Safari Photography

Back in Januar 2011 I visited Tanzania as a part of a journey "around the world". Tanzania is one of the best safari destinations you can choose in Africa. There's an incredible amount of wildlife in a wide variety of national parks and game reserves, some of which only receive a hand full of tourists every year.

I was lucky to spend 16 days on dusty roads trough Tanzania, from Dar Es Salaam in South East to the city Musoma in the North West of the country. During this trip I visited four national parks. Selous Game Reserve in the South, Lake Manyara National Park, Ngorogoro Conservation Area and Serengeti National Park in the North.

Wildlife photography is great fun but quite a challenge. You need to be prepared for anything in seconds, and changing lenses is always a risk with all the dust. During this trip I used a Canon 7D switching between a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4.0 and a Canon EF 70-200 f/4.0 lens. As a supplement I used a Nikon D3000 with a Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 lens.

These are some of the photographs I did as an assignment for Paka Adventures during this trip. The images is used at their webpage; pakaadventures.com and on different kinds of brochures, posters and books.

You can see a selection of the shots from the slideshow below or see all the photographs in this collection on Flickr.
