Bjorn Richter

Artist Biography

Spirit & Integrity

I chose, already at young age, to avoid the conventional career mechanisms of the Art World establishment, and to instead remain rigidly honest in the creative process of my imagery.
It genuinely lead me up the independent outsider’s solitary path, which naturally would seclude my works from conventional appraisal by prestigious Galleries.

However, as an independent outsider I could, without compromise, focus on my concern for nature and wilderness protection.

Concern for nature became a lifelong affair dedicated to the preservation of our Planet and the spiritual environment of our humanity.

My Studio and Home Galleries location in Norway is the creative hearth and spiritual center of my work.
Placed in the middle of exiting nature…with beavers as my nearest neighbor, I find the tranquillity and necessary space to freely respond upon impulse, and to perform the honest, untainted rendition of my visions.

Global Touch

I would not regard myself as being of one particular nationality, nor as someone owing to any nationalistic sentiment…
Often people ask me about my home country which I, still to this day, would struggle to accurately answer…
Perhaps I should rather say, that my station on this planet is that of a citizen of the World Community.

However, I was born in 1937 and brought up in Germany during World War II.
I received my formal training in Fine Arts & Graphical Crafts throughout a sprawling post war Europe.
United States & Central America soon thereafter became my real life education – working as industry professional for quite many years.
Although profound impressions from extensive globe traveling have translated into visual expression in my imagery, it is the 40 years of living in beautiful Norway which accounts for the greater impulses prompting the visions, and the creation of my paintings.

Background, Family and the Arts

I feel naturally drawn by the lure of fantasy, meaning the visualization of imaginary context, and the creation of its imagery.
Already early on as very young, I was deeply fascinated by the magic of watercolors and the mastery of painting.

The performance of artwork was everywhere in my childhood environment.
My Grandparents and near family were all highly skilled artists working in Germany’s cultural center, Dresden.
Grandfather, Artist, Otto Richter, being one of Germany’s last Master Sculptor & Ivory Carver, had 6 brothers, every one of them an accomplished Artist – sculptors, silversmith, music composers, musicians. Grandfather’s work is widely exhibited at world famous, Schloss Erbach, Ivory Museum in Germany.
