I am about to pull the engine on my YB and the wiring harness runs through the headlight bar into the headlamps. Do I cut the wires under the fender and resplice when going back together of take the headlamps apart to unhook the wires and lay them aside? Thank you in advance

Agreed Trev but the Post Office/Royal Mail and the railways - Network Rail/TOCs are both hybrid models or as you say a half way house approach and both aren't working.
Suppose it depends how you want your taxes spent; either to support an inefficient publicly owned body eg BR or paying a private monopoly where the profits are spirited away (as dividends) to foreign investors and the debts are l...

I don't think any of the privatisations have worked, but equally they were not very efficient when nationalised. I think a better way to run them might be to have a half way house a bit like a lot of council houses are now where they are run as a not for profit company. There are some very good ones of those about, but equally some bad ones too, so no easy answer.

    Trev

'A turd's a turd' indeed and most of them seem to be floating in our rivers, lakes, seas and decorating our beaches, thanks to the privatised water companies.

Neither rail nor water privatisations have been successful so how would you address either or both?

Yes, Tap with a brass hammer through the starter opening on the front face of the flywheel, while turning a quarter turn every couple of taps. There are 4 bolts and 2 dowels, so it will resist being removed just a bit.

You might check the oil feed hole to the clutch is clear in the centre of the crank and ensure the bearings in the rear main are feeding oil to the clutch.

    If you ...

Any old scanner should talk to it
It has to be EOBD though
The OBD port looks the same as OBD2 and the usual problem is workshops poke their generic OBD2 scanner in there because that's what the port looks like then tell you it won't talk to it--you need EOBD

Yes, Otto Instruments in Brisbane can repair these. The reality is these instruments were never designed to last 75 years.

Given the accuracy of the GPS Speedo's these days, do we really need to have the speedo or tacho connected on long interstate drives? Could be time to start giving the instruments a rest and unscrewing the cable now & again.

One day, someone will develop an "...

And the LEFT rears its head in the run up to the locals and the GE.

Louise Haig, the shadow transport secretary, who claims to be 'soft' left (don't they all these days), has pledged to renationalise most rail services within five years.

Of course they're denying that it is nationalisation; they're using other placatory l...

    Hi Ewan,

I go to Gary at Ringwood Speedometer Services. Nice guy, very skilled. Very reliable. He's restored/repaired all the gauges in YT over the last 20 years and recalibrated the chronometric speedo each time I changed my diff ratio and serviced. So I believe him when he says it may not have a lot of life left without new parts.

I don't recommend Howard Instruments, who ar...

    Probably not.

My B doesn't have a servo, but I've driven a few that have and not noticed much difference, if any.

If it was an issue, you could always fit a servo. I had thought about doing that at one time, but decided not to in the end.
