Are we a Midsized Organization ?

0

tech-ed-2010-us-153sm How to “Manage IT in Midsized Organizations” was my start point today. You can say we don’t are a midsized organization. Yes, you can have right, but if you breakdown to a small network or system we are a “midsized organization” and we can use the software Microsoft have for this type of organization to save some money. Tools for asset and licensing tracking for a small network for instance.

After session “Virtualzing Microsoft Forefront Threat Management Gateway (TMG)” I get the answer what we must do now, and what I shall do for a Virtual Edge Performance.

The session “Activating Windows: What You Need to Know When Deploying Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 in the Enterprise” give me many answer about KMS and  MAK activation, and how we can use this in a network without internet connection. What we can do in a test network for save money.  So I have some work to do when I come home. I have many answer now.  We are running a licensing project home, and without this information I get today we had done some horrifying mistake.

So the cost for my trip to New Orleans has already been saved in lower cost for my company, and I have also been more up to date.

I look forward to share my information from Tech·Ed 2010 with my colleagues all the new knowledge/information I get here.

Keep Your Knowledge Up To Date

tech-ed-2010-us-2044ws This morning starts with a useful session: “Useful hacker techniques – which part of hackers’ knowledge will help you in efficient IT administration?”

My conclusion after this session is this: “You must think the same way a hacker do for test your own network and server security”.

I get two another DPM session today:  “Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager (DPM) 2010, Part 1: Technical Introduction and Part 2: Protecting Applications”. This knowledge I get here is already shared with my collage at home. We have now enough information about DPM so we can do the right thing and save money.

Check this podcast – Where does DPM fit in the Windows backup market

“SharePoint Security: Permissions, Identities, and Objects” and ”What’s New in OWA, Mobility, and Calendaring in Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 SP1” is two session I will get more deeper in too back at home.

We use Hyper-V server in a cluster, but we have forgot something important. What about the server we are running from HP in a virtual environment ? The session “HP Insight Control for Microsoft System Center “ give me some answer.

Folks, we have some work to do when I come home !!!

Some news: Microsoft Communications Server “14” will be available in the second half of 2010 and have an opportunity to run Video Conferencing over IP in HD quality. Best of all the equipment is low-priced.

One breakout session I was on today spend my company for lot of money since we working on a project to take backup of a lot of data including Exchange 2010 database. The breakout session was “What’s New in Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager 2010” by Jason Buffington. You can read Jason’s blog her.

DirectAccess Configuration, Tips, Tricks, and Best Practices and Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager v.Next Software Distribution was two others interesting session of many more I have been on today.

Microsoft Windows HPC Server 2008 R2 is second product I will take a closer lock at since this supercomputing software can be useful in data processing center from a management view.

I have also done some Hands-on Labs today, (HOL). One was “ Microsoft Forefront Threat Management Gateway (TMG) Overview” since we use TMG.

Conference Check-in

0

tech-ed-2010-us-045w After a travelling time about 25 hours (5 unexpected hour at Washington airport is boring). You will also need 24 hours to become acclimatized for the US timezone when you travelling from Norway before you and your body are ready for a normal day in US.

And if you will avoid the rush Monday morning and don’t lose the Keynote presentation you have to Check-in at the conference centre on Sunday.

Finally I’am ready for Tech·Ed 2010.

Remember walking shoes.

0

Don’t do like a pretty girl I saw on Tech·Ed some
years ago. First day she walked around in tight high-heeled boots.
I made a bet that the next day would see her in jogging shoes. Sure enough,
next day she went jogging in the newly purchased sneakers.

Good shoes are important, very important when you move between the
various sessions.

Remember that the front main building is 1 kilometer long.
